Founded: 1566Â Â Â Â Feast:Â 2nd Sunday of November
History: The Church of Cortalim was built around 1566 on the ground donated by the gaunkars to the Jesuit college of St. Paul and was dedicated to the Apostles St. Philip and St. James. St.James is also called San Tiago. The work was supervised by Brother Francisco Aranha who was the architect of several churches in Salcete.
Architectural notes:
• Mannerist Neo-Roman style
• Large size, 4 bays x 4 storeys
• Frontispiece crowned by broken pediment
• Round columns flank main door, coupled pilasters at corners
• Single bell tower with balustrade missing
• Finials of coupled-ball and spear-ball types
• Corrugated sheet shades for doors
