Church of Our Lady of the Rock of France

This church is located at Brittona on the banks of the Mondovi River opposite the capital city of Panaji in Bardez taluka. It was built by grateful seamen who believed that Our Lady has miraculously saved them from the Plague.

The original church existed in Lisbon and per decree of Pope Clement in 1754 this was one of the two churches outside Portugal to be dedicated to "Nossa Senhora de Penha de Franca". The church lies on a hillock and is distinguished by the upper section of its tower being octagonal in shape.
