History: Originally this was a chapel filial to the Church of Curtorim. It was later rebuilt. S.Jose de Areal was raised to the status of a parish by provision of 26.9.1826.

Architectural notes:

• Mannerist style with Rococo features
• Medium size, 3 bays x 2 storeys
• Frontispiece ornamented with urn finials and relief of sun
• Pilasters broken by side doors
• Twin bell turrets with simple urn finials
• Canopies of corrugated sheets for doors
