Sao Lourenco Church

History: The Church of Sinquerim, was built by the Count of Linhares in 1630, on a hill very close to the Fort of Aguada for the soldiers of the Fort. It was handed over to the Franciscans in 1636. It was detached from Candolim parish to become a new parish church in 1688. The Franciscans left in 1776. The monument of St. Lawrence was built in 1963. On the feast day, the entrance of the Mandovi River is blessed, declaring it open for post-monsoon navigation.

• Mannerist Neo-Roman style
• Medium size, 3 bays x 3 storeys
• Façade has large pediment with oculus
• Scenes from Saint’s life in relief on inside of porch walls
• Slim twin turrets with coupled pilasters
• Large porch with arches and flat roof
