Founded: 1597Â Â Â Â Feast: 3rd Wednesday of November

History: The Church of Navelim was founded in 1597 by a French Jesuit. It was ransacked in the Maratha incursions of 1717 and 1739. The church was then refurnished by the parishioners. Today it is the most populated parish in the Archdiocese.

Architectural notes:

• Mannerist Neo-Roman style
• Large size, 3 bays x 4 storeys
• Sequence of Arch-Rectangle-Oculus-Niche
• Façade has engaged columns with petalled capitals
• Curved pediment crowns apex
• Relief images of sun and moon on façade
• Twin octagonal towers capped with spear-and-ball finials
• Large and high porch with flat roof
