| Zipping around Goa in
taxis or coaches has its advantages but then the real essence
of the Goan ethos is sadly missed. A leisurely cycle ride around
the countryside and into the village by-lanes gets you the real
taste of the Goan way of living. Whether it is ploughing of the
rice fields or harvesting them, feeding the fowls or calling the
pigs to the trough, heating water in a giant copper pot fueled
by dried leaves, all these activities evoke keen interest.
One may even come across the village sexton as he rings his bell
and heralds a birth or death in the village, or an occasional
harvesting of the pond ,..... the list goes on.
