The Muslims Wedding

In most weddings, during the feast, people start with an appetizer and move on to the main courses followed by dessert.   In Bori Muslim weddings though, we start with tasting a bit of salt.  This is said to activate one’s taste buds.

We have a big plate, about 30 inches indiameter, which is called a thaal.  Usually, eight people sit around the thaal.  First some salt is put in a small bowl and everyone wets the tip of their fingers and puts it in the salt bowl and tastes it.

After that, we start the meal with a sweet.  It could be anything, but more often than not, its icecream.

We then have a main dish that is served, followed by another sweet.  All the dishes are served on the thaal.  Those sitting around it have to share the food.  For instance, a big bowl of icecream will be placed on the thaal with eight spoons and everyone helps themselves to it.
