Sao Francisco de Assis Church Elevated: 1591    Feast: Sunday on/after 17th September History: The Church of Colvale was founded by Franciscans in 1591 and dedicated to ‘the wounds of St.Francis of Assisi’. It was rebuilt around 1638 and repaired after the invasion of Bardez in 1683 by Sambhaji. Later on in 1713, the rebuilding of the vaulted church was undertaken. Architectural notes: • Mannerist style with Rococo features • Large size, 5 bays x 3 storeys • Sequence of Arch-Rectangle-Oculus-Relief • Rococo style curved frontispiece with figures of angles and saint in high relief • Middle storey has cornice halfway across façade • Twin bell towers with finials of urn type
