Sao Bras Church
Sao Bras Church Elevated: before 1563    Feast: 3rd February History: Situated in the village of Gandaulim, it was originally a small chapel founded before 1541 and elevated to a Parish Church before 1563. It is probable that it was rebuilt between 1595 and 1609. There is a recent theory that the church building may have been erected by some temporary settlers from Croatia, in the 16th Century. The Parish comprises the village of Gandaulim and the island of Cumbarjuna. Architectural notes: • Neo-Roman style • Medium size, 3 bays x 3 storeys • Sequence of Arch-Rectangle-Oculus-Niche • Niched apex flanked by spear finials • Shade of corrugated sheets for main door |
