Santo Cristo Church
Santo Cristo Church Elevated: 1956 Feast: 2nd Sunday of May History: Originally a chapel built in remote times, it was repaired in 1879. It was separated from the parish of Naroa, on which it depended and erected into an independent parish in 1956. This island was called “Ilha de Capao” by the Portuguese. This Parish is presently looked after by the parish priest of Sao Matias, Divar. Architectural notes: • Mannerist Neo-Roman style • Large size, 5 bays x 3 storeys • Prayer inscribed on gable façade • Finials of spear and ball types • Twin octagonal bell towers with balusters • Porch with tiled roof |
