History: The Church of Nagoa was founded in 1560 by the Franciscans. This church came to be called Matriz (Mother) for its jurisdiction extended over five villages of Parra, Anjuna, Assagao, Siolim, Oxel and Saligao which subsequently were raised to the status of independent parishes. In 1679 the reconstruction of the church was carried out and it was further improved in 1893.

Architectural notes:

• Mannerist Neo-Roman style
• Large size, 4 bays x 3 storeys
• Frontispiece has Rococo style curves
• Niche flanked by Salomonic columns
• Aluminum windows in second storey
• Finials of urn and spear types
• Consoles used at all levels
• Single tower capped with tiled roof
