Nossa Senhora do Mar Church

Elevated: 1661Â Â Â Â Feast: 2nd Sunday of May

History: Oxel in the beginning belonged to Nagoa, then to Siolim Marna rectorate. The Church and the residence of the parish priest were built in 1661. Around 1686, the roof was renewed and some years later, the whole frontispiece was repaired. In the Convent of Santa Monica (Old Goa) there was a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Sea; the image is now in the Church of Oxel. The present edifice of the church was built in 1899.

• Large size, 3 bays x 3 stroreys
• Frontispiece has Rococo style curves
• Pointed arches for upper storeys
• Finials of urn and spear types
• Twin bell turrets
