Nossa Senhora do Desterro Church

Elevated: 1997Â Â Â Â Feast: 2nd Sunday of January

History: A primitive chapel, built in 1672, gave way to the present church building in November 1885. Desterro was erected into a Parish in January 1997, after being delinked from St.Andrew’s Parish, Vasco da Gama.

Architectural notes:

• Eclectic style with Neoclassicizing features
• Large size, 5 bays x 3 storeys
• Belfry at apex, cross base rests on segmental pediment
• Fluted pilasters and banding in façade
• Finials are of elongated spear type
• Grille latticework for walls to rear
