Nossa Senhora do Amparo Church, Elevated: 1.2.1717 , Feast: 14th November History: Originally a chapel dependent on the parish of Arossim, the church was built in 1710. It became a parish by the decree issued on 1.2.1717. Architectural notes: • Mannerist Neo-Roman style • Very large size, 5 bays x 4 storeys • Sequence of Arch-Arch-Oculus-Niche • Front has template with coupled columns, pediment and niche topped by a relief of a winged cherub and a crown and cross • Salomonic columns in three storeys • Large alettes in third storeys • Gable has spear finials mounted on volutes • Twin bell towers with spear and ball finials • Large sheet-roofed porch obscures half of the ground storey
