Mae dos Pobros Church
Mae dos Pobros Church Elevated: 17.3.1903    Feast: 1st Sunday of November History: Originally there was a Chapel at Nuvem dedicated to Jesus, Mary and Joseph in 1695. It was filial to the church of the Holy Spirit, Margao, from which it was delinked and made a new parish by the provision dated 17.3.1903. Architectural notes: • Mannerist Neo-Roman style • Large size, 4 bays x 3 storeys • Lower storeys have engaged Corinthianized columns with pilaster in centre (C-P-C) • Frontispiece has templet with coupled pilasters and fern-edged gable curve • Finials of spear-and-ball type • Single bell tower to the left • Large cantilevered porch on round columns |
