Mae de Deus Church, Founded: 1588 , Feast: 1st Sunday of May History: Founded in 1588 by the Jesuits, the Church of Majorda was made a parochial church between 1595 and 1646. The church was rebuilt in 1739. Architectural notes: • Mannerist Neo-Roman style • Large size, 5 bays x 3 storeys • Frontispiece has Corinthianized columns framing a relief image of the Visitation • Octagonal oculus, shell relief’s in top storey • Ground storey has colorfully painted relief’s • Pilasters have fluting and decorative motifs • Finials of spear and spear-and-ball types • Twin towers set back from façade • Left tower has unsightly concrete roof
