Kashmiri Wedding

One of the most beautiful ceremonies is the posh puja that takes place after the pheras are completed in Kashmiri Wedding.  The bride and the groom sit in front of the fire and are wrapped in a red cloth.

They are given the status of Shiva and Parvati and the red cloth signifies the inseparability between the two. 

The couple is showered with marigold flowers by the family members, while the priest recites shlokhas of Shiva.  This is a very long process and the showering of flowers doesn’t stop.  By the end of it the couple is completely covered with marigold and it’s a magnificent sight.

Cardamoms are known to be auspicious for Kashmiris.  During the wedding the groom wears a thread of cardamoms strung together.

Some families even use gold dust the cardomoms to make it more ornamental.
